Back in 2023, University of California (UC) Davis had a small set of Sunzaun vertical bifacial racking installed – three rows of three modules – to support early agrivoltaics research. Sunstall donated so the university could begin exploring how vertical solar might work alongside crops in California farmland.
Two years later, and after immense collaboration, the research site looks quite different.

In mid-October, our team completed one of the most unique and inspiring projects in our portfolio to date. Set against the dramatic mountain backdrop of Grand Junction, Colorado, this system marks a major milestone for agrivoltaics in the U.S. by standing as the largest viticulture-focused agrivoltaic system (or “viti-voltaic”) in the country.
Sunstall is proud to celebrate the completion of its 100th solar project in collaboration with Coldwell Solar and OMCO Solar – a significant milestone highlighting the strength and consistency of a long-standing partnership.
Solar energy systems are evolving — not just in what they’re made of, but in how and where they’re installed. One innovative approach gaining attention is the use of vertical bifacial solar panels placed along the sides of irrigation canals.
At Sunstall, we help bring such systems into reality with mounting and engineering solutions — and with our product Sunzaun, we offer a purpose-built vertical PV solution that’s ideal for these kinds of applications.Read more

“You can’t do that, it’s a man’s job” This is a sentence that you unfortunately still hear often enough in these enlightened times. But no woman should let such statements stop her from exploring what opportunities she has.

Growing up in Germany with a German mother and an American father, I often wondered what life would have been like if my parents had decided to move to the U.S. Instead, we visited the U.S. every couple of years for a few weeks to spend time with family. As I got older, I realized that having dual citizenship and a deep understanding of American culture opened up many opportunities for me.

Never Underestimate the Value of a Winning Team! – In the world of Commercial and Industrial solar installations, putting the right team together can lead to savings of thousands of dollars in short term costs and even more in total ownership costs. When EPCs and General Contractors get the right subcontractors:
The project goes smoothly,
It stays on schedule,
Change orders are minimized,
Most importantly, you get a high quality installation that will withstand the test of time.

Solar EPCs in the US are competing for fewer projects. Increased specialization, efficiency improvements, and accelerating mergers and acquisitions are among the strategies used by the companies to survive.
One way to control margins is to manage projects systematically. “The amount of wasted time per project is in the 30% range”, says Heiko Schramm of Sunstall.Key points:
As EPCs struggle with low margins, they are being asked to take on more risk.
Large EPCs are pursuing smaller projects.
Higher efficiency in project management may help to differentiate EPCs in the future
EPCs are engaged in an accelerated level of mergers and acquisitions

October 26 2011 – Aurora Oregon; Representatives from Portland General Electric, the Oregon Department of Transportation, Five Stars International and Contractors working on the Solar Highway 1.745 Megawatt project joined Advanced Energy Systems and Sunstall Inc. at the construction site today to mark the milestone surrounding the beginning of the Solar World module installation. With the final post driven in the six acre site, and over 50% of the Haticon Racking assembled it was time to start mounting the 250 watt solar panels. Assisting in unpacking the first module was the project brainchild, Allison Hamilton of ODOT. Other notables from ODOT were Lynn Aveberck, and Lynn Frank of Five Stars International. PGE representatives included Mark Osborne, Dawn Wilde, and Robert Ferraro.
When completed, the project will provide enough electricity to offset the use of both the North and Southbound rest areas at the project location, approximately 15 miles South of Portland Oregon on Interstate 5. As the primary Solar Contractor on the project, Advanced Energy Systems teamed up with SunStall Corporation for the racking installation, and Christensen Electric of Portland for the primary electrical installation.
