Back in 2023, University of California (UC) Davis had a small set of Sunzaun vertical bifacial racking installed – three rows of three modules – to support early agrivoltaics research. Sunstall donated so the university could begin exploring how vertical solar might work alongside crops in California farmland.
Two years later, and after immense collaboration, the research site looks quite different.
In mid-October, our team completed one of the most unique and inspiring projects in our portfolio to date. Set against the dramatic mountain backdrop of Grand Junction, Colorado, this system marks a major milestone for agrivoltaics in the U.S. by standing as the largest viticulture-focused agrivoltaic system (or “viti-voltaic”) in the country.
Sunstall is proud to celebrate the completion of its 100th solar project in collaboration with Coldwell Solar and OMCO Solar – a significant milestone highlighting the strength and consistency of a long-standing partnership.
Solar energy systems are evolving — not just in what they’re made of, but in how and where they’re installed. One innovative approach gaining attention is the use of vertical bifacial solar panels placed along the sides of irrigation canals.

For almost 15 years, we have been dedicated to advancing the solar industry—an achievement we celebrated in style at Sun-spired with 120 guests, great food, music, and an unforgettable fire show. The evening was filled with gratitude, inspiring conversations, and a heartfelt farewell to one of our founders and owners, whose vision helped shape our journey. It was a night of reflection, celebration, and excitement for the future—thank you to everyone who made it so special!

And what a night it was! Sun-spired brought together an incredible mix of long-time partners, valued suppliers, loyal customers, close friends, and our dedicated team. It was more than just a party – it was a gathering of like-minded individuals who shared the same vision: a sustainable future powered by the sun.
In 2020, during my studies in mechanical engineering with a focus on renewable energy at the Berliner Hochschule für Technik, I participated in a project that would unknowingly shape the next few years of my life. The project, part of the “Project Management and Business Planning” module, centered around exploring use cases and business models for vertical ground-mounted solar systems in the United States.
Growing up in Germany with a German mother and an American father, I often wondered what life would have been like if my parents had decided to move to the U.S. Instead, we visited the U.S. every couple of years for a few weeks to spend time with family. As I got older, I realized that having dual citizenship and a deep understanding of American culture opened up many opportunities for me.
Building on the achievements of 2023, Sunstall is honored to once again be distinguished with the prestigious “U.S. Installer Award 2024,” reaffirming our commitment to excellence and innovation in our sector. It was presented on September 12, 2024, during the RE+ Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada. This event, organized by RE+ Events in collaboration with EUPD Research, brought together leading industry figures to honor and celebrate outstanding contributions to the renewable energy sector.
The first Transatlantic #agrisolar Conference, joined by high-level representatives from energy, agriculture, policy, and research to pave the future for agrivoltaics.
